Hugo Shanahan



Hugo is a highly experienced strategic communication professional — working with individuals, teams and organisations to enhance their long-term relationships with media; staff; investors; communities and government. 

He brings a blend of international and local reputation management experience, and is trusted by his clients to provide counsel at all levels of their organisation.

He heads the SenateSHJ financial communication practice and plays a lead role on the corporate team, which has supported some of New Zealand’s most significant capital market and change assignments.

He frequently works alongside senior advisers and in-house teams on Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and Merger and Acquisition (M&A) transactions — to develop employee, shareholder and media communication campaigns.

He has developed and helped stress test crisis management plans for organisations of all scales, including leading rapid response teams on a range of complex environmental, natural disaster and corporate events.

Hugo holds a Diploma of Financial Markets from FINSIA (Sydney) and a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University. He has also studied a Post Graduate Diploma in Communications Management through Massey University.

Outside of work Hugo enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors with family and friends.
